Holy Trinity and Holy Church

Tridentine profession of faith

I, N., believe with firm faith and confess everything and every thing that is contained in the Symbol which the Holy Roman Church uses, namely:

⚜ I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, and begotten of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, consubstantial with the Father; by whom all things were made. He came down from heaven for us men and for our salvation. And he was incarnated by the Holy Spirit from the Virgin Mary, and became man. He was also crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, suffered and was buried, and rose again on the third day, according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father. And he will come again with glory, to judge the living and the dead, and there will be no end to his reign. And into the Holy Spirit, the Lord and the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. He who is worshiped and glorified together with the Father and the Son: who spoke through the prophets. And one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the remission of sins. And I await the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

I firmly accept and embrace the apostolic and ecclesiastical traditions and the other observations and constitutions of the same church.

Likewise, I accept the Holy Scriptures according to the sense which the Holy Mother Church held and holds, and to judge of the true sense and interpretation of the Holy Scriptures, and I will never accept and interpret them except according to the unanimous consent of the Fathers.

I also take advantage of the fact that there are truly and properly seven Sacraments of the new law, instituted by Jesus Christ our Lord, and necessary for the salvation of the human race, although not all of them for each individual: namely, Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Penance, Extreme Anointing, Order and Marriage, and to confer that grace , and from these that Baptism, Confirmation, and Order cannot be repeated without sacrilege.

I also receive and admit the received and approved rites of the Catholic Church in the solemn administration of all the above-mentioned Sacraments.

I embrace and accept everything and everything that was defined and declared about original sin and about justification in the most holy Synod of Trent.

I profit as well, that in the Mass a true, proper and propitiatory sacrifice is offered to God for the living and the dead, and that in the most holy Sacrament of the Eucharist there is truly, really and substantially the Body and Blood, together with the soul and divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the conversion of the whole substance of the bread into the Body but the conversion of the entire substance of wine into blood, which the Catholic Church calls transubstantiation. I also confess that I receive Christ and the true Sacrament entirely and completely under another form only.

I firmly maintain that there is a purgatory, and that the souls detained there are helped by the votes of the faithful. Similarly, the saints, reigning together with Christ, are to be venerated and invoked, and prayers are to be offered to God for us, and their relics are to be venerated.
I affirm most firmly that the images of Christ and Deipara of the Virgin, as well as of other Saints, should always be kept and retained, and that due honor and veneration should be imparted to them.

I affirm that the power of indulgences was also left by Christ in the Church, and that this practice is most salutary to the Christian people.

I acknowledge the Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church as the mother and teacher of all churches, and I pledge and swear true obedience to the Roman Pontiff, blessed Peter, Prince of the Apostles, successor, and Vicar of Jesus Christ.

All the rest, likewise, handed down, defined and declared by the sacred canons and ecumenical councils, and especially by the sacrosanct Trentine Synod, and by the ecumenical Vatican Council, I unquestionably accept and confess, especially concerning the primacy and infallible magisterium of the Roman Pontiff; I likewise condemn, reject, and anathematize all heresies condemned and rejected and anathematized by the Church.

This true catholic faith, outside of which no one can be saved, which I at present freely confess and truly hold, the same whole and inviolable to the last breath of life, most constantly, with the help of God, to retain and confess, and by my subjects, or those whose he will take care of me in my office, to be held, taught and preached, as much as it will be in me, he will take care of me, I promise the same N., I vow and swear.

So help me God and these holy Gospels of God
