WONDERFUL MIRACLE
HOSTIA HAS BEEN BLEEDING FOR 770 YEARS
In 1247 a young bride, tormented by her husband’s infidelity and in a desperate attempt to win back her love, decides to turn to a witch. She told him it was possible to create a powerful love filter that would restore her husband’s original loyalty and passion.
The indispensable ingredient for success, however, was a consecrated hostel that the woman had to provide for herself.
The young woman, aware of the sacrilege, responded to the request and went to her parish, the Church of San Esteban. After receiving the Eucharist, he hid it stealthily in the corner of the veil he wore on his head.
She got down and quickly headed home, but some people stopped to ask if she was injured as they saw droplets of blood mark her path.
The woman immediately understood where the blood was coming from and, suffocating, ran home, quickly hiding the particle, wrapped in a cloth, inside a wooden box.
The woman has calmed down. In the evening the husband came home and after dinner he went to sleep as usual.
However, in the middle of the night, they were awakened by a flash of light throbbing inside the room, coming from the woman’s trunk.
She was then forced to tell her husband everything, who was shocked to see the shiny and bleeding oyster. Then they had a spectacular vision of angels worshipping the Bloody Ostia.
As soon as dawn came, they rushed to alert the priest, the story of the miracle in Santarém spread and many people rushed to the place to prostrate in adoration and prayer.
The hostel was returned to the Church with a solemn procession, placed in a beeswax relic by the priest, and the bleeding continued uninterrupted for three days.
Over the centuries, Santarém’s miracle has continued to bleed. It can be seen as fresh and hardened hemorrhagic tissue. According to the people who have seen him, he has an irregular shape and veins that run from top to bottom.
The fact that the hostel has remained intact all these years is a “second miracle” and continues to defy skeptics.
Blessed be the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar!
