⚜ THE 3 INSTANCES WHICH OCCURRED IN THE CREATION OF THE ANGELS
From online sources
THE ANGELS WERE CREATED BY GOD OUT OF NOTHING.
They were brought into existence in a state of innocence, so they had not committed any sin. They had sanctifying grace in their souls and they were endowed with the virtues of faith, hope and charity.
Angels have no other virtues, other than originally that of faith, hope and charity. The reason they don’t have any other virtue is because a virtue is how we relate with a particular thing, and so they do not have the kinds of relations to things as we have here on earth, except for their relationship to God. Physical things are not a problem or an advantage to them. It’s not like they have to worry about eating too much, for example.
But then, there was what’s called “the three instances” of their creation.
FIRST INSTANCE – THE ACT OF KNOWING
The first is that they were created in the “act of knowing.” What does this mean? For some of us, we have to wake up in the morning and drink some coffee for our brain to function correctly, right? This is not how angels function. The second they think of a thing, they exhaust everything there is to know about that thing instantaneously, to the degree that their intellect is capable. So this is the first of the three instances: they were created in the act of knowing.
The immediate act of knowing included their assigned tasks by God. God said: this is what you are to do. Every assigned task to the angels had a relationship to Christ in some fashion, either proximately or remotely. So, in the case of Lucifer, for example, when he said, “I will not serve,” he actually rejected his assigned task, which was to be the bearer of knowledge and light to other creatures, but he was also made to know that Christ (God) would become man, and that in that process they would have to serve that God-Man, if they were to be saved. This meant that human beings and angels were or would be saved by virtue of Christ or they were or would be damned by virtue of Christ. They were told, “This is your assigned task, and this is how it relates to Christ.”
Now, what Satan could not accept, as the highest angel created, was that there would be a Woman who would so far excel him in grace and knowledge of God, that she would excel everybody combined, every human and every angel, which meant that his place as the highest would be superseded by somebody even higher, and so he said, “No, I will not serve.”
St Louis de Montfort tells us Satan rejected Christ under the aspect of Our Lady. He would not accept her. So what’s the punishment that fits the crime? In the Old Testament we read: She shall crush your head. Gen 3:15.
So all the demons that rejected Christ, rejected him under some aspect. One exorcist was dealing with a demon in a possessed person who would not accept Christ under the aspect of His mercy. The fallen angel, the demon, could not accept that Christ was going to be merciful to Man, because remember there was no mercy for them, the angels (which we will talk about further below).
So in the first instance is that they were created in the act of the full knowledge of they’re assigned task and it’s relation to Christ… so for example, your Guardian Angel’s first thought, communicated to him was that he was going to be assigned to take care of you, so that you may be saved by Christ. Look at how precious you are to God and to your Angel. You were being thought of many, many years before you were even conceived in your mother’s womb. God was already putting together the plan for you and communicating it to a being so marvelous and so beyond our comprehension that if he were to appear to us, we would do what most people have done with angelic encounters in Scripture, and thought him to be God. That meant one of two things happened after the first instance of their creation, and here we come to the second instance.
SECOND INSTANCE – ST. THOMAS AQUINAS TELLS US THAT THEY (THE ANGELS) EITHER ACCEPTED THEIR TASK, OR REJECTED IT.
Now remember, it’s not like us. Human beings are kind of clueless. We’re pretty stupid. And that’s why God has mercy on us, you know. Fr Ripperger always tells people, “Mercy is for the contrite and the stupid”… and that’s what it is. Adam and Eve were just really not that bright, and they were extremely intelligent, far more than we are, but the fact of the matter is they just didn’t have it. The angels have it. And this is the principal reason God has mercy on us, because we’re really not all there intellectually, so, what He does is, he cuts us some slack as long as we’re sorry, right? Well, the angels weren’t stupid. So when they made their choice, they fully understood all the ramifications, all the punishments that could come from it, and all the merit that could come from it if they made the right choice. So when they made their choice it was actually and fully volitional. So in the second instance, they chose to either accept their assigned task or reject it, knowing full well where that choice would lead them.
THIRD INSTANCE – ANGELS ARE NOT LIKE US.
The reason we’re still around after we commit mortal sin is because God gives us a chance (not permanently, or forced to, mind you) to get our act together and get to heaven. The angels are different. They either do the right thing, or they don’t. And once they do that, their wills are LOCKED into that choice permanently. Forever. Not like human beings, where we can fluctuate back and forth and that’s because our knowledge is not as clear as an angel’s. When an angel chooses, his will becomes confirmed in that thing instantaneously, either confirmed in the good, or confirmed in the bad. So the third instance of their creation was either they were damned, or they got to see God immediately.
Now, you’re going to hear from time to time when people say things like: oh, the angels didn’t know what they were doing, God will give them a chance. Don’t listen to these people. That is all false. We hear it in scripture: Satan was a liar from the beginning. He made a choice… that’s it… done.
This being the case, spiritual warfare began.
Remember how we said angels communicate “telepathically” by imposing their will and thought on another angel who can either accept or reject engaging? Well, that’s basically also how they engage in spiritual warfare, until they reached a certain point where God said, “That’s enough.” 17:16
